Design Process
I start sometimes with a cardboard model and then design shapes in Adobe Illustrator. Then the original digital files get sent to Modeltech ( a laser-cutting business) to get lasercut. I receive shapes back in mail and assemble by hand using nylon clips.
These designs can be scalable using the precision of Adobe Illustrator's scale tool. Hole size of top of shade can be custom sized to fit your light fitting perfectly. (Exact measurement for hole diameter required in millimeters.)

Hello, I’m Julie Allender. I live in Christchurch, New Zealand, with my husband and our two dogs, a Samoyed and a Golden Labrador. My lampshades are exclusively available in Christchurch and the surrounding Canterbury region, as I prefer to sell them assembled. Some of the shades are quite large, making shipping impractical. I also aim to provide a personal touch by delivering them free of charge, allowing me to address any questions or concerns directly. My journey into lampshade creation began after I earned a Bachelor of Design in Applied Visual Arts as a mature student. Initially inspired to craft lighted-sculptures, I transitioned to designing laser-cut bamboo lampshades for family and friends. I appreciate bamboo plywood for its flexibility and sustainability, which are essential in my designs. I favour natural, curved lines over rigid, straight edges, as I believe they offer a more organic and visually appealing aesthetic.
